What It Does

This mod adds animations to the game that allow you to:

- Draw a pistol or lightsaber from a hip holster or belt
- Stow the pistol or lightsaber in a hip holster or belt
- Draw a rifle, polearm, melee weapon, or other equippable right-hand item from your backpack over your shoulder
- Store a rifle, polearm, melee weapon, or other equippable right-hand item into your backpack over your shoulder
- Twirl a pistol, rifle, lightsaber, polearm, melee weapon, or any right-hand-equipped item with flair
- Reload a pistol, rifle, or other ranged weapon
- Draw and stow objects in the characer’s utility belt with the left hand (e.g. to roleplay using the commlink or pulling out a datapad; animation opens a belt pouch, removes or inserts the, and closes the pouch again)

The Rail’s Combat Animation Upgrades mod began with Tziena’s Gunslinger Animation mod, which added the ability to draw and holster a pistol from the hip, and to spin a pistol by using SOE’s existing but unused animations. Although Tziena’s version is great, it didn’t take into account all the characters who don’t use pistols, which limited the fun for Jedi, riflemen, carbineers, melee combatants, and others.Tziena’s mod also made use of the default /sing commands, which were often difficult to remember.

Rail’s Combat Animation Upgrades extends and seeks to improve upon the Gunslinger Animation mod to the best of my ability. It includes 7 animations (Tziena’s only included 3), and is 100% compatible with the Gunslinger Animation mod; any macros you’ve built to use that mod will continue to work after installing this one.

What actually happens is that seldom used animations are replaced by animations that are in the game files but unused. I’ve also included more natural and memorable commands to activate the various animations.

After installing the mod, simply type the below commands to fire the corresponding animation. The actions can be fired manually or in macros (see below for included sample macros), and produce the animations with no spatial text (unless you choose to add an “/emote something” line into your macro).

NOTE: /sing commands produce no spatial text unless you are an Entertainer. This mod is not recommended for use by Entertainers.

=== COMMANDS AND ANIMATIONS ===

“/sing weapontwirl” - Twirls any right-hand-equipped item (pistol, rifle, saber, polearm, feather duster, etc.) forward and back.

“/sing drawholster” - Draw a pistol, saber, or other weapon or item from the right hip (lines up well with a Simple Belt or PSG)

“/sing stowholster” - Stow a pistol, saber, or other weapon or item at the right hip (lines up well with a Simple Belt or PSG)

“/sing drawshoulder” - Draw a rifle, sword, or other weapon or item with the right hand from over the right shoulder (e.g. as if slung over the back or contained in the character’s backpack)

“/sing stowshoulder” - Return a rifle, sword, or other weapon or item to its place over the right shoulder (e.g. as if slung over the back or contained in the character’s backpack). Note: SOE never built an animation to do this while standing (there’s prone and kneeling, but no standing for some reason). Consequently, your character will kneel to stow his rifle, sword, or other item over his right shoulder and then return to a standing position.

“/sing reload” - Reload an equipped ranged weapon like a pistol, carbine, or rifle

“/sing frombelt” - Retrieve from or store in character’s belt an imaginary item using the left hand

=== MACROS ===

Also included are sample macros that fire the animations while activating or deactivating toolbar-equipped weapons at the correct times. By following the included directions, the macros are starting points you can customize to match your toolbar configuration and help you make the most of the new animations.

=== LEATHER HOLSTER ===

If you watched the video I created to demonstrate the new animations you may have noticed that my character wears a black, dual-belt leather holster. He wears it thanks to Vampiric_Hoshi’s Leather Holster Mod, which changes the simple belt and Personal Shield Generators to a combined mesh of the simple belt and bounty hunter belt colored to match each other.

Included in the Rail’s Combat Animation Upgrades archive are the mods to get the same dual-belt leather holster in either brown or black. Extract and install Holstermod.rar or HolsterMod_TrueBlackEdition_1_00.rar to get a brown or black holster belt respectively.

To recolor the belt yourself, visit Vampiric_Hoshi’s page on ModSource and download the holster mod Photoshop Document PSD here: http://mods.mandalorians.de/system/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thread_id=3176&rowstart=0

How To Install

First, you have to uninstall any previous conflicting Mods that you may have used. Otherwise there may be serious compatibility issues. To install this mod, use an archiving utility such as Winzip, ExtractNow! or WinRAR to extract the files from this ZIP or RAR archive to your desktop or to a temporary folder.

The archive will extract with a ReadMe.txt file, several other files, and several subfolders.

1. Exit SWG. You cannot replace animations and see the result with SWG running.

2. Copy the entire \appearance folder, including the animation subfolder and all .ans files, into your main SWG directory (usually C:\Program Files\Star Wars Galaxies\).

3. Copy the entire \string folder, including the en subfolder and .stf file, into your main SWG directory (usually C:\Program Files\Star Wars Galaxies\).

4. Decide whether you would like to also install Vapiric_Hoshi’s Leather Holster mod, and, if so, whether the brown (holstermod.rar) or black (HolsterMod_TrueBlackEdition_1_00.rar) version. Extract the appropriate archive and follow the installations instructions in that archive’s ReadMe.txt.

5. Open the Macro_Samples.txt file to see example macros that will help you get the most from the new animations.

6. Launch SWG and try out the new commands and macros.

7. Tell all your friends and guildmates to install Rail’s Combat Animation Upgrades too so that everyone can enjoy the animations when of drawing, twirling, and stowing weapons!
